Doors open at 6PM

We invite you to a very special evening with the 2015 Artist INC Advance class – 14 of some of Kansas City’s most talented and driven visual and performing artists who have spent the past 9 weeks developing art projects they are now ready to share with the community.
On Wednesday, December 9, they will present their final projects and we will ask you to VOTE for the project you consider the most deserving of a $1,000 grant.
This special event will include delicious food and drink provided by Howard’s Grocery, Cafe, and Catering and the opportunity to spend time with each of the artists and learn even more about their projects.
From a Cuban music exchange to a pop-up art space in a vintage 1960 Airstream trailer, the Artist INC Advance projects span disciplines and reflect the diversity of vision and ambition in the local creative community.
The artists presenting include Debbie Barret Jones, Laura Isaac, Lisa Marie Evans, Annie Cherry Montgomery, Andi Meyer, Camry Ivory, Anson the Ornery, Michael McClintock, Kasey Rausch, Trilla Ray-Carter, Cydney Ross, Emily Evans Sloan, Casey Whittier, and the Minister of Information aka M.O.I.

April More or Le$$: Lackman Neighborhood Library

Posted on May 30, 2014 by Emily Posted in More or Le$$ .

photo The drive to Lackman Neighborhood Library was a little… exciting… spring thunderstorm on the highway with lots of wind, rain and lightning.  Luckily, it cleared up way before the donuts and people arrived, and it was a good day.20140426_IMG_8699-2(Though I am not convinced that the patrons of this branch were as excited by the interactive part of More or Le$$ as they were about getting a donut.)  And the fact that it was a special donut, made by Farm to Market for the purpose of this event didn’t seem to matter to most!

It was Fantastic…

One of the most exciting things about “Cecropia” was how the audience became participants… all of these images were shared from Michelle Lambson.  I loved how each person could walk around and choose where they viewed the performance…either from the windows of the T.o.T. or inside the studio just a few steps away… on monitors showing the surveillance videos.  The entire night was magical. Really really magical… like a dream you don’t want to ever end.

Sloanville Christmas in the T.o.T.

Posted on December 3, 2013 by Emily Posted in Uncategorized .

Sometimes just getting all the Sloan children in one spot at one time is like a mini pre-Christmas miracle… we had a mini miracle twice this week (once on Thanksgiving and once last Sunday).  I’ll take those mini miracles when I can get them.

In the famous words of Mark Smeltzer: “This happened.”

I have to say it was a success. It was awesome. It happened… and I am happy.

Take It Easy

Posted on October 4, 2013 by Emily Posted in Squares for the T.o.T. Cozy, Yarn Bombing .

I was reminded yesterday by a dear friend, that some things need not be rushed. I told her of my panic about how long it was taking me to see progress on the “cozy”.  She gently reminded me that I am a process gal, first and foremost. I love the process of making and how some things are meant to take time…  it was a great reminder and timely.  Thank you dear friend.
